Inspection of the Peace Lagoon in Eilat for the Government Tourism Company

Purpose

Characterization of the problems that have arisen at the lagoon in Eilat and suggesting solutions in order to allow the construction of hotels nearby. About twenty years ago, the Peace Lagoon in Eilat was built in the northern beach area. Due to water quality and sediment problems, the lagoon is not open to the public for bathing.

The challenge

The work has included in the first stage familiarization with the site, the original plans, the actual situation, performance and supervision of tests and sampling operations at the site. Later, the data and results of onsite tests had to be analyzed, in order to understand the nature of the problem and to suggest engineering solutions to the problem.

Our part in project management

The work was carried out together with a team of experts from the RHDHV Company in the Netherlands. Our responsibility included coordination of all work in Israel, including liaison, obtaining information, translations, selecting an implementing company, oversight of tests and sampling operations conducted in the field and assistance in analyzing the information and understanding the problem. The Dutch experts analyzed the existing engineering information, defined the tests and sampling operations required, the work methodology, analyzed the results in order to better understand the problem, and presented possible engineering solutions to the problem.
